IMPORTANCE OF
AFTER TREATMENT CARE
Denture Care
Like a new shoes, we need time to adapt to our new denture.
- Gargle after meal: After every meal, remove your denture, gargle and clean your denture. Food tends to become trapped between your denture, gums, and teeth. When left unclean for an extended period, this can lead to decay, resulting in potential discomfort such as a burning sensation on your gums.
- Daily Cleaning: Clean your denture daily with denture cleanser. Follow your product instructions. Prolong soaking will change your denture color. If you do not have denture cleanser, at least wash it with water.
- Do not sleep with your denture to allow your gums rest. Therefore, soak your denture in a glass of water when you are not wearing it to prevent it from losing its fit. DO NOT use hot water as it will cause your denture to shrink.
- Do not clean your denture with toothpaste. Toothpaste can scratch your denture, reducing your denture lifespan, stain easier and harder to clean. Do use toothpaste for your natural teeth instead. Brush twice a day.
- Begin with a soft diet: Adapt to your denture during eating by starting with a soft diet, gradually increasing the toughness of your food to allow your gums to become accustomed to the denture.
- Engage in practice: Our mouth contains many muscles that require training to adjust to our new dentures. By practicing, we can enhance our phonetics. Read the newspaper aloud to familiarize yourself with your denture.
- Visit our dentist if you have the following problems:
- Your denture is loose
- Your denture is causing you ulcers
- Regular check-up (every 6 months) is advisable to make sure you are doing a good job.
