IMPORTANCE OF
AFTER TREATMENT CARE
TEETH WHITENING
How to maintain your teeth whitening results?
The first 24 hours after treatment dictates how well your whitening treatment will last.
Our principle at GTC is ‘If it can stain your white cup, it can stain your teeth too’.
Here are what I usually tell GTC’s patients:
- No smoking
- Avoid drink that leave dark stains such as coffee, red wine and black tea
- Avoid foods that leave dark stains such as soy sauce, curry and sambal
Here is a bonus,
Avoid cold drink/food for a while as you might experience some sensitivity after teeth whitening
My advice varies according to my patient’s lifestyle & teeth conditions. The general guideline, we will recommend GTC’s patients incorporate 2 more habits into their lifestyle after teeth whitening treatment:
- Wait 1-3mins before gargling after brushing: In the morning, after brushing your teeth with toothpaste, do not gargle right away, try to wait 1-3 minutes before you gargle.
- Gargle within 30mins after eating.
We also recommend using Whiteglo toothpaste in the morning and normal toothpaste at night.
Do consult your dentist for more detailed advice.

FAQs
Click here to find out more about scaling at GTC Dental. We highly recommend to do scaling before teeth whitening.
It works by using bleaching agents to remove stains and discoloration from the surface of the teeth. The bleaching agents penetrate the tooth enamel and break down the molecules that cause stains, resulting in a brighter and whiter smile.
When performed under professional supervision and following recommended guidelines, is generally considered safe. However, it's important to consult with a dentist before undergoing any whitening treatment to ensure it is appropriate for your dental health and to minimize the risk of potential side effects.
The longevity of teeth whitening results can vary depending on factors such as individual habits, diet, and oral hygiene practices. Generally, teeth whitening effects can last from several months to a couple of years. Maintaining good oral hygiene and avoiding stain-causing foods and drinks can help prolong the results. Periodic touch-up treatments may be necessary to maintain the desired level of whiteness.
